This was on my list of movies to watch in 2015 but never got round to it until recently. I hadn’t seen trailers for this, just read reviews and seen the poster for it but it was mainly the tagline that got my attention “this house needs a family”. It starts off like a regular haunted house movie, lights going out and a shadow figure appears, pictures falling and Anne feeling the presence of her son, Bobby, who dies in a car accident which didn’t really do much for me then there’s a creepy scene where some neighbours turn up to welcome Anne and Paul to the area and proceeds to tell the history of the house and its original owners, the Dagmars who ran the house as a funeral parlour and Lassander Dagmar who was caught selling the bodies and burying empty coffins which was the start of the dark horrifying secrets. After this scene the movies starts to pick up and getting more interesting and surprisingly gory for a haunted house movie, which i came to learn is actually an homage to Lucio Fulci and Italian horror, this brings a refreshing change rather than the regular haunted house jump scares and makes the movie a lot more entertaining.
I am going to rate this 8.5/10 and recommend you buy this movie. As far as i know there is only a dvd release(UK) and i am not aware of any plans for a blu-ray release but i hope there will be one. I will also update my top 10 of 2015 as this definitely deserves a place in my list.
Trivia-(IMDb) some characters were named after characters and people that were apart of the Fulci film The House by the Cemetary(1981)
