WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE. In this post I am taking on the supernatural and reviewing The Conjuring 2.

Cast – Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Madison Wolfe and Frances O’Connor
Director – James Wan
Plot – When a single mother and her four children become targets of a relentless supernatural force, Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to Enfield, North London to investigate and once again take on the forces of evil.
After the success of 2013’s The Conjuring, James Wan returns to direct its highly anticipated sequel. Based on the events that occurred in Enfield, a borough of North London in 1977, it is the allure of true events that attract the attention of fans once again.
At the start of the movie we see the Warrens in the Amityville house, the haunting site of the infamous Defeo murders. Although this is the start of a storyline between the Warrens, I felt like it was a nice touch in to include this event. As the film progresses, it’s just a standard supernatural movie which for me was a struggle to keep my attention focused on the screen. I had no problem with the story, my issues were with the “scares” I felt they were quite underwhelming, especially “The Crooked Man”, he could have been a major part in the scares but the look of him was just a bit rubbish. There was a few moments that were effective and did get me to jump but the one thing that made me uncomfortable the most was actually the position of the young boy’s bed, as someone who suffered from nightmares/terrors, having the bed that close to the door was starting to freak me out and bring back some bad memories.
Overall this was an OK movie, I don’t feel there was anything special for me to label it one of the scariest of the year. If you are a fan of supernatural horror movies then this is definitely one that will leave you satisfied but in my opinion, it isn’t one that left me wanting more movies from this series or any “spin-off” movies.
I’m giving The Conjuring 2 a rating of 6.5/10 and recommend it as rental if you are a horror fan in general but if supernatural movies are your thing then it will be a must watch.
