Being a massive fan of the Halloween franchise, I was incredibly excited when I heard there will be another movie and when I heard it was going to be Rob Zombie directing it the level of excitement reached another level. I feel like I am amongst the very few who actually enjoyed this, there has been a lot of bad reviews over the years but I really think this was a good addition to the franchise. Prior to its release I watched as many interviews as I could find, of Rob Zombie talking about remaking this horror classic. In one interview I heard him say he wanted to make Michael Myers scary again, instead of kids dressing up as him to go trick or treating, he wanted them to be terrified of “The Boogeyman” once again. I honestly think he succeeded to some extent, he certainly made him a lot more brutal and violent which did make him a bit more scarier.

In this version we get more of a back story of a younger Michael Myers and we get to learn and see the reasons as to why he became a serial killer. This part was executed well and I thought Daer Faerch played his role really well as a young Myers as he starts to show signs of a twisted mind, especially in one scene where after the brutal murder of his sister, step father and his sisters boyfriend, he is sitting in the back of a police car and has this incredibly disturbed, crazed look which shows no remorse. 15 years later we see Myers as an adult, the sheer size of him is enough to intimidate, Tyler Mane makes for a perfect unstoppable killer, standing at 6’8″, add that with his strength and the brutal killings and you have something to be terrified about. It’s another Rob Zombie film that is full of brutal death scenes so it certainly does not disappoint his fans and does work effectively in a Halloween film. When revisiting the Halloween franchise, I do think Rob Zombie’s Halloween is worth watching again.

I give this 8/10 I really did enjoy it but not as much as the original movies, I still recommend this a buy, especially if you are a Halloween fan. I just pray for the day they release the blu-ray box set here in the U.K.
