Hush(2016)
Welcome to my nightmare, in this post I will reviewing 2016’s Hush which is currently streaming on Netflix. WARNING as this may contain spoilers!

Cast – Kate Siegel, John Gallagher, Jr. Michael Trucco and Samantha Sloyan
Director – Mike Flannagan
Plot – After a bout of meningitis at aged 13 leaves Maddie Young(Kate Siegel) without hearing, she lives her adult life in isolation while focusing on her career as an author. After a visit from her neighbour Sarah(Samantha Sloyan) the night takes a turn for the worst when Sarah is chased back to Maddie’s house and is brutally murdered on her door step. Soon the masked killer starts to realise Maddie’s disability and decides to make her his next target.
After reading the plot for this movie my first thought was how it would be filled with all the cliché scenes of other movies with an isolation setting. I thought I would give it a chance anyway since the fact the main character is deaf gives this something a little different and had me intrigued. As I was watching I couldn’t help but be reminded of The Strangers(2007) which is a movie love but I feel Hush is more fast paced which for me, almost ruins it. Another thing I didn’t like was I felt the killer removed his mask a bit too quick, it might have had more of an impact on me if he kept it on for longer. There are some good points for this though, the use of sound is incredible and adds to the effect and although there are the cliché scenes, I thought they were still executed well and maintained shock factor. Also for a small cast I thought the acting was really good especially from Kate Siegel who was really convincing in her role as Maddie Young.
I rate this 7/10 and I say it’s definitely worth streaming, I know it is currently on Netflix (U.S and UK) but I haven’t heard anything about a dvd release as of yet.
